YOLA- The first lady, Mrs Oluremi Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday empowered 250 elderly people with N200,000 each in Adamawa.
Speaking at the presentation in Yola, the first lady said that the empowerment was the second edition of her Renewed Hope initiative.
Tinubu, who was represented by Hajiya Lami Fintiri, the wife of Adamawa governor, said that the social investment programme had allocated at least N50 million for the programme.
She said that the aimed was to support elderly people in each state of the federation, alongside medical outreach programme.
The first lady said that empowerment support would go a long way in providing some of the needs of the elderly citizens at the critical time.
However, the governor’s wife, lauded the first lady’s generosity, saying the support would go a along way in reducing the hardship being faced by the beneficiaries.
“The initiative of the Nigerian first lady is a testament to the government’s commitment to prioritising the health and well-being of elderly citizen,” she said.
According to Fintiri, her pet project ‘Fresh Air Pro Life Empowerment Foundation’ will compliment the first lady’s initiative by adding food stuffs to the beneficiaries.
Mrs Neido Geoffrey, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, said that the initiative would improve the lives of countless individuals nationwide.
She congratulated the beneficiaries and advised them to make judicious use of the money on their families.
Mama Albert Zira and Umar Usman, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed their appreciation to the first lady for supporting the elderly people in the country. (NAN)
