Lagos- An Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a fisherman, Taiye Agbaje, over the alleged murder of his colleague, one Monday Ukoro.
Agbaje, 37, who lives at Ogbun Village, Epe in Lagos State, is facing a charge of unlawful killing.
The Magistrate, Mrs K.A. Ariyo, ordered the remand of the accused at the Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Ariyo, thereafter, adjourned the case till Jan. 27, 2015, pending legal advice from the DPP.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Frank Odigie, had told the court that the offence was committed on Aug. 13, at 3.00 p.m., at Ogbun Village in Epe.
Odigie said that the death of Ukoro followed a disagreement over N3,500, which the deceased owed Agbaje.
According to the prosecutor, the accused in annoyance used a paddle to hit Ukoro before pushing him into the river, where he drowned.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 221 provides that anyone who unlawfully kills another is liable to death.(NAN)
