ABUJA – The Flamingoes, Nigeria’s under-17 women team, have been drawn to face either Botswana or Namibia in their opening fixture in the qualifiers for the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. According to the fixtures released on Wednesday, the qualifiers which involve 15 countries, with six of them playing in the preliminary round see Nigeria joining the fray in the first round. The three fixtures in the preliminary round will have Gabon battling Sierra Leone, Djibouti facing DR Congo and Botswana taking on Namibia. The first leg matches of their fixtures will hold between Nov. 27 and Nov. 29, while the second leg games are to hold between Dec.11 and Dec. 13. Nigeria will then face the winner of the Botswana/Namibia pairing in the first round, with the Flamingoes hosting the first leg between Jan. 8 and Jan. 10, 2016. The second leg comes up between Jan. 22 and Jan. 24. Other first round fixtures will see Egypt taking on the winners of the Djibouti/DR Congo pairing, and Ghana facing the winners of the Gabon/Sierra Leone fixture. Cameroon facing Ethiopia, and South Africa meeting Zambia. In the second and final round, the Flamingoes, if they overcome the winners of the Namibia/Botswana pairing, will take on winners of the Zambia/South Africa pairing. The Flamingoes will host the first leg tie between March 11 and March 13, while the second leg comes up between March 25 and March 27. Winners of the three second round pairings will qualify automatically for the World Cup scheduled for Jordan later in the year.(NAN)
