Abuja- The Flying Eagles, the country’s national under-20 male football team, will open their 2015 with an endurance drill in the morning of New Year day, a team official has said.

“We will begin 2015 with hard work,” said Flying Eagles assistant coach Nduka Ugbade said in a statement issued on Wednesday by the team’s Media Officer Samm Audu.

It said the team was aware that there was still a lot of work to be done before their first match at the African Youth Championship (AYC).

“So, we cannot afford to relax even for a day.

“All celebrations therefore have to be put on hold until we have met some of our targets.

“Our New Year day will be when we would have qualified for the World Cup in New Zealand,’’ Ugbade said in the statement.

The statement said the African Continental Hotel in Kaduna, which has severally been home to the team, plans a special treat for the squad thereafter.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the team is preparing for the AYC scheduled to hold in Senegal from March 8.

Qualification at the AYC will give the team the chance of a trip to the World Cup in New Zealand later in the year.(NAN)
