Lagos – A food technologist, Mr Solomon Wojuola, has urged the operators of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to package their products for export in line with international standards.
Wojuola made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, in Lagos.

“A lot of our SMEs are doing products which are good, but they also need to compete in the world of packaging and labelling.
“Because, a lot of people focus mainly on what I call `formulation without focusing on the packaging’.
“And packaging is also very critical in the success of a product in the market, when you are developing formulation, develop your packaging side by side.
“It’s not just what, after you have the formulation, I will just pour my juice into one container and go and sell, that is not the way to go.
“Because labelling is changing, and different countries also have their different requirements.
“You are conversant with the labelling of the country where you are trying to export to and then, you must decide your packaging accordingly.
“So, the world of product development, packaging is changing so that you don’t just sit in your room and just do what you want to do and send out.
“It is changing the fact that you must be aware of what is happening in your environment and you must be able to follow what are the rules and regulations for you to have a product that will succeed in the market.”
