A tip of what to expect in the much-publicized Boiling Point Arena interview discourse slated for Sunday September 8, 2024 has started unfolding with a recommendation that Nigeria’s electoral process be finetuned to allow electronic voting in all elections taking place in same day.
This is the preliminary summation by a retired former Director at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Oluwatoyin Jokosenumi who has been penciled down as a Discussant on the online show.
Jokosenumi lamented that the greatest tragedy of the Nigerian Nation is the bold vituperations of current political office holders who openly declare and rob it on the faces of the citizenry that they bought their way into power.
To him, for the country to survive, this present crops of moneybag politicians with no visible evidence to justify their stupendous wealth, must be shown the way out so that only credible and visionary people emerge as leaders.
One way to actualize this, according to him, is for Nigerians to resolutely insist on a new political order with the introduction of electronic voting and use of national identity cards during elections.
Jokosenumi said: “It is a tragedy that the leaders who emerge on the political scene bought their way into office, at virtually all levels. We can actually kill moneybag politics if we use electronic voting whereby you can vote from your bedroom or anywhere you are and all elections must take place on one day.
“We also must implement the National Identity Card project such that can access all our data. We must know how many we are as a people and where we are. The real credible leaders who have the necessary expertise, qualifications, capacity and relevance to deliver democratic dividends for Nigeria cannot emerge unless we first rejig the electoral process.”
Jokosenumi, an Owu, Abeokuta indigene, was Project Management Consultant working with the World Bank for the National Identity Management project almost two decades ago.
He also spoke about a plethora of other challenges bedeviling the nation.
Jokosenumi will feature alongside a petroleum expert, Prof Wunmi Iledare as Discussants at the interview discourse which kicks off by 8pm on Sunday.
The topic of discourse is: *”Nigeria in Socio-Political and Economic Quagmire: What Are The Rescue Options?”*
A special Independence Edition, the once-in-a-month interview discourse, the 23rd such installment, will hold for a two-hour duration via Zoom and will be transmitted live on a radio station, Sweet 107.1FM.
Boiling Point Arena, with an incredibly large online followership, is the brainchild of Convener, Dr Ayo Arowojolu, a media professional with 34 years multi-varied work career spanning the media, banking and education sectors.
As expected, a frontline traditional ruler, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof Saka Matemilola is to deliver a keynote speech to herald the discourse, in his capacity as Chairman, Boiling Point Council of Royals and Elders.
