Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Moses Jitoboh has died at the age of 58.
He passed away in the early hours of Friday, December 27, 2024, at Garki General Hospital in Abuja. Reports indicate he succumbed to blood clots in his lungs.
Former Deputy Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kayode Olagunju, confirmed the news in a social media post, writing, “We lost DIG Moses Jitoboh, rtd, mni, a friend and course mate @ the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru. Painful exit. Rest in Peace. May the Lord console your family, friends, and others left behind.”
Jitoboh, a native of Bayelsa State, had a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). He served as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to former President Goodluck Jonathan during Jonathan’s tenure as Vice President under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua from 2007 to 2010.
However, his career ended abruptly last year when he was compulsorily retired following the appointment of the current Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun. Jitoboh contested his retirement, filing a suit with the National Industrial Court in Abuja. He argued that the Police Service Commission (PSC) forced him out of service despite his not having reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 or the required 35 years of service.
Jitoboh’s untimely death marks the loss of a respected figure in Nigeria’s law enforcement community. His contributions and service remain a significant part of his legacy.
