Sundiata Post – Emmanuel Ijewere, the former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a member of the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign council, is dead.
Mr. Ijewere, a highly respected figure in Nigeria, was known for his significant contributions across the banking, finance, and agricultural sectors.
The late Ijewere, born in 1946, had an illustrious career that spanned various leadership roles, including serving as the Chairman of the Big Tent Obi-Datti Independent Campaign Council. Morris Monye, a prominent LP member, shared the somber news on X, expressing sorrow over the loss.
Mr. Ijewere’s legacy extends beyond politics, as he previously held key positions such as the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Institute of Directors (IOD), and the Nigerian Red Cross. His educational journey took him from Lagos to Ijebu-Ode, Cameroon, and the UK.
Notably, he contributed to national assignments, chairing the Agriculture and Food Security Commission and the Modified Value Added Tax Committee. His dedication to agricultural transformation was evident through his role in the Agricultural Transformation Implementation Council (ATIC) during past President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.
Additionally, Mr. Ijewere played a crucial role in the Buhari Transition committee, providing valuable insights as a resource person on agriculture. Before his passing, he held the position of national coordinator of the Nigeria Agribusiness Group
