The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has officially placed Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State, on its watchlist due to his failure to appear in court for his arraignment regarding an alleged case of money laundering amounting to N80.2 billion.
Following unsuccessful attempts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest Bello at his residence in Abuja, the commission declared him wanted and urged the public to provide any information that could lead to his apprehension.
An internal circular, dated April 18, 2024, signed by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, DS Umar, on behalf of the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, directs all NIS zonal headquarters and commands to arrest Bello if spotted. The circular includes Bello’s name and passport number (B50083321), highlighting the charges he faces, including conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering, as per a letter from the EFCC.
The circular instructs NIS officials to take immediate action upon encountering Bello at any entry or exit point, referring him to the Director of Investigation or contacting specified phone numbers for further assistance.
