IBADAN – A retired Commissioner of police, Olayinka Balogun, has advised Muslims show exemplary conduct to encourage their children to grow up as responsible citizens.
Balogun gave the advice on Sunday while delivering the quarterly distinguished lecture organised by the Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ibadan branch.
The lecture was entitled: “ Security Challenges in Nigeria: Causes, Effects and Panacea in Islamic Perspective’’.
He said parents’ actions and in-actions have a lifelong influence on their children, as such they must learn to always do the right thing.
Balogun also advised parents to monitor their children and correct them whenever they notice any negative behaviour in them, adding that the children of nowadays needed to be closely monitored.
The retired police commissioner observed that parents laxity in the moral upbringing of their children had contributed to the present level insecurity in the country.
He advised government to provide education, water, health care system and other infrastructure for the benefit of the people, adding that these would solve the problem of insecurity in the country.
He said that without development there was no security, adding that weak and incapable government cannot guarantee the genuine expectations of decent society.
Balogun urged the Federal Government to employ more police personnel to bridge existing gap.
Earlier, Dr Dhikrullah Yagboyaju, chairman of MAN, said that the lecture was organised to encourage Muslims to do the right thing.
Those present at the occasion include Prof. Oloyede Abdulrahaman, Chief Imam, University of Ibadan, Alhaji Is-haq Sanni, Chairman, Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) among others. (NAN)
