Abuja – A former Super Falcons Captain, Kikelomo Ajayi, has expressed her desire to return to the national team if given a call-up by the incumbent technical crew led by Florence Omagbemi.
Ajayi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the ongoing Police Games in Abuja that she had not retired from international football.
She added that she still had a lot to offer if given the opportunity to serve the nation again.
“I have not retired from football; it’s just that I have not been invited to the national team camp for some time now because some of the coaches think I am too old to play.
“Florence Omagbemi, the Super Falcons handler, said she needs some experienced players in the Super Falcons; so, I am waiting to see if I will be invited to help in the defence.
“In female football, the older the sweeter because you have experience; I will honour any national team call up,’’ Ajayi said.
According to Ajayi, her experience in Poland where she plays club football has offered her an opportunity to improve on her skill.
“I am still playing club football in Poland Women’s Premier League and I have a two-year contract which will expire next year.
“Football in Poland is interesting because they have division one to five including the premiership; there is crowd whenever football is being played and they put money well into it.
“The people in Poland love me so much; at times when I go to the market, I don’t pay because fans pick up my bills saying that I have made them proud.
“The coach wants me to extend my contract but I will have to think about it because I have a Police career to accomplish.
“However, I might quit playing after my contract and possibly go into coaching,’’ she said.
Ajayi pointed out that she was at the Police Games to win medals to boost her career.
She said: “When you play well in the Police Games, the Inspector-General (IG) of Police is likely to promote you and when he promotes you it’s a plus to your career.
“So, everybody is working hard to win a medal because the present I-G is a kind-hearted man; he is somebody that likes sports’’. (NAN)
