ABUJA – The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) on Friday commended the military for its stance and commitment to defending democracy at all costs.
The forum’s factional Chairman, Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau, made the commendation in a statement released to newsmen in Abuja.
In the statement signed by Mr Osaro Onaiwu, the forum’s Administrator, Jang specifically commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, for his position on the nation’s democracy.
The statement hailed the defence chief for declaring that “democracy has come to stay in the country and that the military has no intention for it to be truncated.’’
It berated those he described as professional political mischief makers that make a habit of undermining the nation’s democracy by spreading rumours of military insurrection.
“There is no alternative to democracy as has become evident in modern governance worldwide.
“Nigerians now have a say on how their commonwealth is deployed for the collective benefit of all.’’ (NAN)
