ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – Dare Adesomo, Coach of Kicker Football Club, a Division two side based in Abuja, has expressed optimism about his team’s progress after a friendly with the Flying Eagles in Abuja.
Dare told in an interview in Abuja on Friday, that the match has provided valuable experience for his players, and helped identify areas for improvement.
In spite of suffering a 4-0 defeat, Adesomo commended his players for their impressive performance.
“This isn’t our first match against the Flying Eagles, as they often get the chance to test their players’ abilities when the Flying Eagles are in camp in Abuja.
He said the Eagles team is currently in camp preparing for the 2025 Under 20 AFCON, which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18.
“They are in Group B alongside Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. The top four teams from the tournament will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile in September,” he said.
Adesomo said that today’s friendly match was a crucial step in the preparation to assess his team’s, Kicker FC strength and weaknesses.
“ Particularly with the eight new set of players who have joined the team, am working on preparing them, in spite some having fitness level that are not up to par.
“ Our focus isn’t solely on winning, but rather about exposing this players to the realities of the sport and encouraging them to take their careers seriously.
“ We are focused on developing players’ skill and building a strong team dynamic, and willing to drop players who don’t meet the required standards to lead Kicker FC to success,” he said.
“Our next match is against Assess FC on Feb.27 by 7 a. m at the FIFA Goal Project of Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
He said the team is gearing up for the Division two League in May, a date yet to be confirmed, adding that they are confident to compete.
Adesomo expressed gratitude to the media for promoting the team and encouraged them to continue their support.
He emphasised the significant role the media plays in their success, stating that their achievements are largely due to the publicity efforts.(NAN)
