Lokoja- The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Lokoja has again restated the need for commercial motorcyclists to always put on crash helmets and reflective jacket.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Godwin Omiko, made the appeal on Tuesday at a rally organised by the organisation for members of the National Motorcycle Transport Association.
Omiko said that wearing of the items were for the safety of both the rider and the passenger.
He said the FRSC had discovered that many motorcycle accident victims in different hospitals in the state sustained fatal injuries because of non-compliance with the use of crash helmet and safety jacket.
“We are out to reduce accident by making people to imbibe safety measures,’’ Omiko told the rally which was organised as parts of the Ember Months Road Safety Campaign by the FRSC.
He also urged riders to desist from the habit of making or receiving telephone calls while driving and avoid overloading to reduce crashes.
In his speech, the Chairman of the association, Mr Bamidele Olaniran, promised that his members would comply with all the traffic rules and other safety measures introduced by the organisation. (NAN)
