Abuja – Mr Sunday Oghenekaro, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), FCT Command, has advised Philanthropists who donate vehicles to ensure that the beneficiaries were competent to drive them.
Oghenekaro gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.
He said that the advice became necessary in order to curb carnage on the roads.
He said an enquiry had shown that many of the drivers involved in auto crashes always claimed that they were given such vehicles by philanthropists.
“Many of the commercial vehicles are being given out to empower the unemployed youth, this is a good development, but caution must be exercised in doing that.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“I will advise such good-hearted individuals (Philanthropists) to ensure that such vehicles are given to those who are competent to drive them to achieve the objective of the gesture, ’’he said.
The sector commander said that the total ban on commercial motorcycles within the metropolis of the FCT had been successful.
“Total ban on commercial motorcycles within the metropolis has saved many lives and reduced fatalities.
He said the command would continue to work with Transport Associations and the general public in apprehending people driving vehicles without license.
He also said that the command was working hard to realise the objective of the Ember Months patrol.
NAN recalls that the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, had mandated all Unit Commanders of the commission to sensitise road users and ensure safety during the Ember Months patrol.(NAN)
