Onitsha (Anambra)- The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Monday commended the media for healping to educate the public on the dangers of raod traffic violations.
Its Zonal Commander in charge of Zone 5, Mr Charles Akpabio, made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha, Anambra.
Akpabio also applauded the support of sister agencies for a hitch-free Christmas.
“I want to most sincerely thank the media for helping us to educate the public on the dangers of road traffic violation and the need for them to drive within permissible speed limit.
“One thing is clear, road safety is a shared responsibility; FRSC cannot do it alone.
“I want to appreciate the efforts, the commitment, the dedication and the support of our sister agencies.
“The army, the police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the staff of the Directorate of State Security and some of the people that we don’t even know that they can assist us.
“And the (Anambra) state ambulance services and National Emergency Management Agency( NEMA) used their ambulance to assist us in case of any crash. Even if there was no crash; but there ambulances are there to assist us.
“So, we really appreciate all these stakeholders in our making sure that we have a seamless programmes during and after the Christmas period.’’
The zonal commander said that his zone did not record any fatal accident but minor crashes with no serious injuries, adding that ”our special and regular marshals have been exceptionally at their best this season.
“I and my officers and men had been up and doing; I spend over 12 hours each day since I relocated near the Onitsha Bridge-Head on Dec. 18.
“And every detail had been factored into our operation to ensure that we improve on our service delivery to Nigerians using the road, especially major road corridors in Anambra, Delta and Edo States.’’ (NAN)
