“The period of special patrol, which lasted for about one month, we arrested about 574 offenders for about 604 offences.
“Some of the vehicles were impounded; about 339 of them were impounded within the state.
“So, that was to tell you how we effectively monitored the roads; combined enforcement with traffic control so as to stress the importance of behaving well on the highway as we earlier promised.’’

The commander said that most of the suspects were arrested for three principal offences necessitated by the mood of the yuletide season.

“You know that people want to go home and they are many; they want to cramp themselves in the vehicle; so overloading was one thing that came to our attention.
“Aside from this, you could see a few ones in the happy mood, drnking and driving. So, that was equally seen.
“Then over-speeding because of meeting up with appointment was equally identified.
“So, apart from these, it was okay.’’

Ajayi, however, thanked the Federal and Anambra governments for making virtually all the road corridors within the state passable during the yuletide.
He also lauded the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Anambra Traffic Management Agency (ATMA), Safety Chapel, Red Cross and Man-O-War for their collaborations.
“I must not fail to thank Anambra State Government for the vehicles and a heavy duty toll truck donated to the FRSC in order to enhance our operations in the state, especially during the yuletide period,’’ he said. (NAN)
