Abuja – The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Saturday said it has created a diversion at OPIc junction by Fagbemi to ease off traffic along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Mr Bisi Kazeem, Head of Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC , said in a statement that the diversion became imperative to enhance free flow of traffic on the route.
He quoted the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi as saying that the measure would temporarily address the congestions at the construction spot in view of the anticipated increase in volume of traffic on weekends.
Oyeyemi also directed that only the articulated vehicles from the Lagos end of the road should be allowed to continue their journey on the same route.
He said the smaller vehicles including buses would be diverted to the other lane by Marshals strategically stationed at the junction to direct the vehicles to promptly bring sanity to the road.
“The measure was taken to temporarily address the congestions at the construction spot in view of the anticipated increase in volume of traffic on weekends.
“More so, the construction company handling that portion of the road had given assurances that another alternative route would be opened to traffic on Saturday .
” This is to complement the traffic decongestion measures already put in place by the FRSC.”
Oyeyemi called on motorists to exercise patience restraint while plying the Lagos-Ibadan expressway as whatever inconveniences they were experiencing would soon be over.
“What the people require is patience and restraint while using the road, because a situation where everyone wants to use the road at the same would only bring chaos .
“If drivers could be patient and show restraint while using the road, we are sure that the hardships would be a thing of the past, because in a matter of time, everyone would have the right .”he said
Oyeyemi said more FRSC personnel and logistics had been deployed to bring reliefs to the commuters along the road.
He urged the public to obey traffic rules and regulations as erring drivers risked their vehicles being impounded as Mobile Court sittings would be increased for quick dispensation of cases against traffic violators.
He expressed optism that with the pace of work being done, the road would be completed by December and opened fully for use by motorists.
