Badagry (Lagos State) – Mr Salisu Galadunci, the Unit commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Badagry, on Monday lamented the recklessness of motorcycle riders in the area.
Galadunci told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry that most motorcycle riders do not comply with the directive on use of helmets, which is to protect them and their passengers.
“Most motorcycle riders in this area are very reckless as they do not obey simple traffic rules and they are always over-speeding.
“You would see them trying to pass a tiny space and you begin to wonder how these people think. They do not care about other road users, they just drive anyhow they like.
“In some cases, when an okada rider hits a car and causes damage to it, instead of doing the right thing by apologising, other riders come and try to harass the owner of the car.
“This practice is rampant around here and it has to stop,’’ he said.
The unit commander said that motorcycle riders must learn how to respect other road users and obey traffic rules for their own safety and that of others.
He said that the command had embarked on several enlightenment programmes in order to sensitise motorcycle riders in the area.
“We have embarked on several campaigns at different motor parks and other strategic points so as to enlighten okada riders on the dangers of disobeying traffic rules.

“Also, our men are at different spots to enforce traffic laws and to ensure that people obey traffic rules, so that the road can be conducive for all,” Galadunci said.
He advised motorists to avoid exceeding speed limits and overloading. (NAN)
