Kaduna – The Kaduna Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has deployed 250 marshals and nine ambulances on major highways in the state to ensure accident-free Yuletide.
The Sector Commander, Mr Umar Ibrahim, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Friday.
Ibrahim noted that the ambulances stationed along Kaduna-Abuja expressway, Kaduna-Zaria road and Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road was to ensure that no life was lost in case of fatal accidents.
According to him, the command has rolled out several operations which began from Nov. 15, to ensure safety of roads throughout the Yuletide season.
“These operations include operation zero tolerance for accidents, special intervention patrol and traffic frequency monitoring, to make roads accident-free.
“Apart from the highway patrol, marshals have been deployed to different junctions to ease traffic flow in Kaduna metropolis.
“We have deployed radar guns to all flash point areas in the state, to check speed violation. We are equally checking overloading and tyre violation,” he said.
According to him, the command is collaborating with other relevant stakeholders like the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Emergency Management Agency and the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
He said the step was to ensure that travellers enjoy safer roads throughout the Yuletide and beyond.
“We are all aware that the attitude of the road users contributes to a large extent, the increase in road accidents during festive periods.
“This is why we have been carrying out series of rallies and road shows in all major motor parks, designed to keep the motoring public informed on the need to be safety conscious.
“And we will sustain the enlightenment campaign throughout the period and beyond.”
Ibrahim explained that the special patrol and ember months campaign were part of the corps’ public enlightenment programmes toward ensuring safer roads, especially during this period when traffic volume increases.
“To this end, we remain committed to providing necessary human and material resources for effective management of traffic in identified black spots, and through awareness campaign on proper use of the roads,” the official said.
He urged the road users to obey traffic rules and regulations during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
