ADO-EKITI – The Ekiti State Sector Command of the FRSC on Wednesday warned road users, especially commercial drivers, against over-loading while adhering to road traffic guidelines.
The commission’s Public Education Officer in the state, Mr Isaac Abioye, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti that the enforcement of the directive against over-loading was still in operation.
He said carrying more than a passenger on the front seat and more than three on the other seats constituted an offence.
Abioye said over-loading also included carrying of luggage that could block the view of the rear mirror. [eap_ad_2] He further said carrying luggage in a manner that the booth of the vehicle would be left open also contravened the directive.
” The war against over-loading is still on and I want to warn road users, especially commercial drivers plying Ekiti routes during the ember months, to abide or be ready to face the law.
“Anyone caught violating this policy or any of the traffic rules will be arrested and prosecuted,” Abioye said.
He said the command usually ensured that commercial drivers, who take-off from motor-parks in the state, adhered strictly to the order banning over-loading.
“The directive against over-loading is religiously applied and enforced among inter-state drivers, but we only give waivers to those drivers who engage in town service at times,’’ he said.
He, however, declined to give the actual number of those who had violated the over-loading guideline in the state.
“All I can say on the number of arrests is that a sizeable numbers of drivers have been arrested and prosecuted for violating the rule,’’ he said.
He reiterated the commitment of the FRSC to containing road crashes to the barest minimum on Nigerian roads. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
