OSOGBO – Mr Muhammad Husaini, Osun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), said on Wednesday that it issued 1,467 driver’s licences to motorists in the state in October.
Husainin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo that the figure was a compilation of new applicants for the new driver’s license, as well as those upgrading to new ones.
According to Husaini, information on the new driver’s license has been uploaded into the FRSC data base.
The sector commander noted that only licenses issued by the commission were certified as authentic.
He, therefore, called on motorists not to patronise touts or middlemen, when processing or procuring their driver’s licences.
“Any driver’s license procured without the bearer going to the FRSC for physical image capturing and provision of bio-data is not authentic.”
“Anybody using a driver’s licence procured through payment to a middleman, without making a physical appearance at the commission’s registration and capturing office, is using a fake driver’s license,” he said.
Husaini also said that there were procedures to follow in procuring the new drivers’ license and upgrading the old ones, adding that whoever intended to apply could get more information by contacting the commission or its web site.
He said that the commission had not authorised anybody to act on its behalf.
According to him, anybody caught using a fake driver’s license on the road will be apprehended as the use of fake license is an offence which contravenes the FRSC law. (NAN)
