Abeokuta – No fewer than 145 people lost their lives in 392 road accidents in Ogun between January and December 2015, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said on Thursday.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Adegoke Adetunji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta that 152 of the accidents were fatal.
He said also that 1,353 people were injured from the various accidents recorded within the period under review.
He said that non-compliance of motorists with traffic rules especially by commercial drivers were largely responsible for the accidents.
Adetunji said that speeding, dangerous driving and non-compliance to road signs were the major causes.
He said that out of the 145 people that died, 101 were male, 32 were female while 12 children also died in various crashes across the state in 2015.
However, the commander said that there was reduction in them nubers of death recorded during the period compared to those of 2014.
“In 2014, 234 deaths were recorded and 984 people injured in 298 accidents,’’ he said.
Adetunji said that the corps would continue to embark on aggressive enlightenmentmme progras in order to reduce road crashes across the state.
“The command is advising road users to be safety conscious while obeying traffic rules and regulations, and we also enjoin them to desist from driving against traffic,’’ he said.
He urged commercial vehicle operators to fix the speed limit device in their vehicles, reminding them that full enforcement would begin on April 1. (NAN)
