LAFIA – The Nassarawa State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says the rate of road crashes in the state reduced drastically during the Yuletide.
Mrs Faustina Alegbe, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria

(NAN) on Wednesday in Lafia that the reduction in road crashes within the last few months was due to [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]the 24-hour special patrols by the commission.
She noted that 15 fatal cases of road accidents were recorded in December 2014 in the state, as against 103 cases in December 2013.
Alegbe also commended the collaborative efforts of special marshals in the state, whose contributions, she said, also culminated to the reduction in the road crashes.
She, however, noted that the tempo of the patrols would be sustained in 2015, adding that the command would intensify its enlightenment campaigns in motor parks and other public places.
Alegbe maintained that the FRSC was working round the clock to ensure that the roads were safe for everybody and urged road users, especially commercial drivers, to abide by traffic rules and regulations.
“We want road users to see the FRSC as partners working towards safeguarding lives and not as enemies, as perceived by some drivers.
“That is why we emphasise on the enlightenment of earring drivers, above the sanctions of fines they have to pay,” Alegbe said.
She tasked passengers to take responsibility for their safety by ensuring that they cautioned drivers who might want to endanger their lives through speeding.
“If you are travelling in a vehicle that is speeding, you owe it a duty to caution the driver and if he refuses to heed, you alight,” Alegbe added.
She also disclosed that the command would soon embark on the registration of all commercial motorcycles in the state.
According to her, the registration would be done in collaboration with the Nassararwa State Board of Internal Revenue, with the aim of licensing all motorcycles. (NAN)
