The Head of FRSC Regional Plates Plant in Awka, Mr Shehu Iliyasu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nteje, near Onitsha, that the new one-stop shop in the state would eradicate number plate touting.
Illiyasu, who said that the plant serve states in South-East and South-South, noted that the centralised plate obtaining procedure would eliminate middlemen who might want to take advantage of unsuspecting members of the public.
He said that “in Anambra, we have one-stop shop for obtaining number plates.
“And in the one-stop shop, we have the Anambra Board of Internal Revenue, we have Vehicle Inspection Officers , we have the road safety office and bank representatives, whereby you can just go and make payment.
“Also, you don’t have to go to a bank outside the building, it is co-located within the building whereby you can go, make payment, obtain whatever you want to obtain; so it makes things easy.’’
According to him, the number plate one-stop shop in Anambra is located at Amawbia, the outskirt of Awka along the Onitsha-Enugu road.
Illiyasu, who is a Core Commander in FRSC, said that the demand for number plates from South-East and South-South states had been encouraging, adding that the plant only produces vehicle number plates for now.
He, however, did not disclose the number of plates already produced or issued out from the time the plant was inaugurated in March 2014. (NAN)
