Badagry (Lagos State) -The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday advised motorists to regularly check their tyres and avoid overgauging.
Mr Salisu Galadunci, the Unit Commander of FRSC in Badagry, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that motorists ignoring to regularly check their tyres sometimes end up with fatal accidents.
“Motorists must ensure that all the tyres on their vehicles are in the best shape and properly gauged, but it is important to note that motorists should not overgauge their tyres.
“Many people have the tendency to ignore their tyres and this shouldn’t be the case because tyres are paramount to the functionality of vehicles.
“With good tyres, the car would consume less fuel, make it more balanced and efficient, but if the tyres are not good, it could lead to various mishaps which should have been easily prevented,’’ he said.
Galadunci also advised motorists against speeding.
“People should avoid speeding because of the state of roads in the country.
“Speeding is the major cause of accidents in Nigeria,’’ he said.
The FRSC unit commander also called on road users to always obey traffic rules.
“Many motorists who ply the Badagry/Seme expressway do not put on their seat belts, especially the commercial bus drivers, and that is the major problem we have here.

“People should learn the habit of using their seat belts for their own safety and protection,’’ he added. (NAN)
