Kaduna – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it is committed to enhancing the capacity of its marshals through regular training for efficient service delivery.
Mr Salisu Galadunci, the Head of Operations, FRSC, Kaduna State Sector Command, made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Friday.
Galadunci said that the command had concluded plans to hold a workshop on March 21, for such personnel from the eleven units under it.
According to him, the training is to reorient patrol personnel on how best to approach erring motorist and other road users whenever there is an infraction in order to achieve the best result.
“The workshop would educate the patrol officers on how to offer best services to the public and to know at what point to impound or fine an earring motorist, which should be the last resort.
“For some offences, we can just warn drivers on the spot, others we have to bring them to the office and some we have to issue a ticket for them to pay fine, based on the offences committed.
“But that is the last resort and that is what I want my patrol men to know, that the last resort is to make an earring motorist pay a fine.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The emphasis should be more on enlightenment for motorist to embrace good driving ethics, and desist from beating traffic light and indulging in dangerous driving,’’ Galadunci said.
He said that the primary aim of patrols on highway was to help in minimising road crashes, clear obstruction and enlighten motorists.
“This is the aspect I want my men to focus on; imbibing best practices while on patrol to ensure better understanding and good relationship between us and motorists.
“We need the support of motorist and members of the public. We want them to appreciate what we are doing.
“We want them to know that we are not on the road to hunt any one; we are not on the road to stop people from going where they are going; but we are merely on the road to save lives and properties, Galadunci said. (NAN)
