FRSC to sanction convoys, motorists knocking down volunteers—Corps Marshal


ONITSHA (ANAMBRA) – The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says knocking down its marshals, volunteers and collaborators on the line of duty will now attract sanctions. [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]
Its Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha, Anambra, on Friday that marshals, volunteers and collaborators were important to its operation.
According to Oyeyemi, what they are doing is “ a free public service to the nation”.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]

“Knock down my men, I will push you and I want you to be charged to court. And I will make sure I [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]press for the maximum charges to jail you.
“What the marshals are doing is a public service.
“In an attempt to save lives; their own lives must not be endangered.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“So, that is different from patrol operations; which we have told them not to pursue (fleeing traffic offenders).’’

NAN reports that the commission has the mandate to prosecute drivers knocking down its personnel or volunteers ensuring safety on the nation’s roads.
Oyeyemi gave the indication in view of the threats posed by convoys and motorists to FRSC marshals, volunteers and collaborators during the yuletide special patrols.
The corps marshal said that the special patrols would end on Tuesday, saying:“So far, we had a successful patrol with good output and improved service delivery to road users nationwide’’.
NAN reports that the officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Safety Chapol, Peace Corps and state government traffic agencies participated in the exercise as collaborators . (NAN)
