BADAGRY (LAGOS STATE) – The Badagry Unit, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), on Thursday warned motorists against the usage of right hand drive vehicles.
The Unit Commander, Mr Salisu Galadanci, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry, Lagos State.
The commander said that offenders could face up to six months imprisonment and the vehicle would be [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]destroyed.
NAN reports that the usage of right hand drive vehicles has been on the increase in Badagry.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“The usage of right hand drive vehicles is prohibited under the Nigerian law since 1973 when cars were changed to left hand drive.
“So, with that in mind, it is alarming that we still see right hand drive vehicles being driven on various highways in Badagry.
“Violators will pay a fine of N20,000 or face up to six months imprisonment and in some cases, he could face both penalties.
“Also, the commission can get a court clearance to destroy such vehicles, so, we advise people not to
[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]commit this offence to prevent such punishment,’’ he said.
Galadanci noted that driving of right hand vehicles was dangerous to other road users.
“It is a serious infringement because driving of such is very hazardous to other road users.
“When the users of such vehicles want to overtake another vehicle, he or she will have to swerve off the road completely and this is very dangerous for vehicles coming behind.
Galadanci advised motorist to always obey traffic laws to avoid mishaps. (NAN)
