A letter sent by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the Rivers State House of Assembly ahead of his unsuccessful attempt to present the 2025 budget has come to light.
The letter, dated March 11, 2025, was addressed to Speaker Martins Chike Amaewhule. Issued from the Office of the Governor and signed personally by Fubara, the document was titled “Presentation of Rivers State 2025 Budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.”
In the letter, Fubara referenced his statewide broadcast on March 2, 2025, where he reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s ruling on the state’s political crisis, pending receipt of the enrolled judgment orders.
The letter stated, “It was in furtherance of this commitment that we initiated the consultative meeting with the Rivers State House of Assembly for the 10th of March 2025 to consider all the issues raised by the judgment and agree on the way forward in the best interest of our state.”
Fubara noted that the scheduled meeting was not held, describing it as an unfortunate development. However, he affirmed the administration’s decision to proceed with the implementation of the judgment terms, having received the certified true copy.
He further wrote, “Consequently, we wish to notify Mr. Speaker of our desire and intention to present the 2025 Rivers State Appropriation Bill to the Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday 12th March 2025 by 10 am.”
