Libreville -Jean Ping, Gabonese opposition candidate, has called on President Ali Bongo to “acknowledge his defeat” in a weekend presidential election.
He said on Monday during a press conference in Libreville that unofficial tallies gave him a clear edge.
Meanwhile, that country’s Interior Minister, Jean Francois Ndougou, had described Ping’s move as an attempt to pre-empt official announcement of the poll results, expected on Tuesday.
The minister said that Ping’s pronouncement, by declaring victory on Sunday, was an attempt to manipulate the democratic process. (Reuters/NAN)
