Berlin – World Cup winners Germany are to start 2016 with friendly matches against England and Italy, the German Football Federation (DFB) said on Friday.
“These are exactly the games that everyone wants,” team manager Oliver Bierhoff told the DFB homepage. “It was important for us in the few available dates to use them to compare ourselves with the strong nations.”
England will travel to Berlin to meet Joachim Loew’s side on March 26 and on March 29 Italy are welcomed in Munich as Germany prepare for the European Championships held in France from June 10 to July 10.
Germany recently confirmed a friendly away to France in Paris on Nov. 13 and away to England in London on Nov. 17.
Germany are second behind Poland in Euro 2016 qualifying Group D.
Their next competitive match is in Frankfurt, against Poland, on Sept. 4. (dpa/NAN)
