ABUJA – Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chris Giwa, on Sunday assured new African champions, the Super Falcons, of adequate preparations for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
Giwa, while congratulating the Falcons who emerged continental champions in the women’s game on Saturday in Namibia, said “the Falcons deserve better preparations to be able to deliver on their promise in Canada’’.
Nigeria beat Cameroon 2-0 in Windhoek to reclaim the African Women Championship (AWC) title for their seventh win in nine appearances.
In a statement released in Abuja, Giwa who was restored to office on Thursday by the ruling of a Federal High Court in Jos said “the players and their technical crew have been able to bring unquantified joy to the nation’’.
He said also that the team’s individual prize winners such as Desire Oparanozie, Asisat Oshoala and Francesca Ordega all deserve their awards and were worthy of praises.
“We shall do everything to make their playing in Canada during the finals of the World Cup the best in recent times.
“Whatever is required to make their preparations worth the while will be put in place,’’ Giwa said.
The NFF chairman then thanked all Nigerians for their prayers, support and advice to the team.
“Our special thanks also go to the Federal Government for its support which the players have utilized to re-emerge as worth African champions,’’ he said.(NAN)
