Kano – The Global Partnership on Education (GEP) has allocated 27 million dollars to Kano State as part of its support to the development of education in the area.
The state Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Education, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, disclosed this at the launch of the Global Partnership for Education/Nigerian Partnership for Education in Kano on Tuesday.

Abubakar said no fewer than 5,000 primary schools; 45,000 teachers and 500,000 pupils would benefit from the gesture between 2016 and 2019.
He said, “with this support, the future of education will be very bright in the state”.
According to him, GPE has earmarked 100 million dollars for the implementation of the project in five states of the North-West.
Also speaking at the occasion, the GPE Task Team Leader, Olatunde Adekola, said the project would focus on girl child education, teacher training and scholarship, particularly to women teachers without NCE certificate.
“The project will certainly increase access to education in the state and the region,” he said.
In his remarks, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje said the state government had earmarked N22 billion in the 2016 budget for the development of education in the state.
Ganduje said the decision to allocate the huge amount to the sector was borne out of the government’s effort to provide the much-needed facilities in its schools across the state.
He, therefore, called on parents to enroll their children in school in order to benefit from the gesture.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that GPE is a multi-lateral partnership formed in 2002 to support developing countries to ensure that every child receives quality education with priority on the poorest and vulnerable among them.(NAN).
