Following the 2-1 loss at home to Serbia, Cristiano Ronaldo has said Portugal’s hope of attending the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is still very much alive.
Portugal had opened the scoring in the second minute of the game through Renato Sanchez which was equalised by Serbia through Dušan Tadić in the 33rd minute.
Serbia went on to win the game after an effort by Aleksandar Mitrović in the 90th minute and are now on top of Group A in the World Cup qualifiers.
Reacting, Ronaldo gave no excuses for the loss, while expressing the optimism that Portugal which occupies the second position in Group A will be in Qatar.
He tweeted, “Football has shown us time and again that sometimes it’s the winding roads that lead us to the most desired wrecks.
“The goal of attending the World Cup 2022 is still very much alive and we know what we have to do to get there. No excuses. Portugal bound for Qatar.”
