LAGOS – Ms Maureen Chigbo, the Publisher of Realnews Magazine, on Wednesday emerged as the new president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) for the next two years.
She was elected on the first day of GOCOP’s two-day 5th Annual General Meeting/conference held at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, to take over from the publisher of The Eagle Online, Mr. Dotun Oladipo, who has completed his second two-year tenure.
Maureen, who becomes GOCOP’s fourth president was elected alongside Danlami Nmodu mni, publisher of Newsdiaryonline and Max Amuchie, Founder/CEO, Sundiata Post Media Group and 12 others as the new set of Executive Committee (Exco) of GOCOP.
Nmodu was elected as the Deputy President while Amuchie emerged Co-ordinator, North Central zone.
Others elected are Mr Ken Ugbechie, Vice President, South; Mr Tom Chaiheman, Vice President, North; Mr Collins Edomaruse, Secretary-general and Mr Olumide Iyanda, Deputy Secretary-General.
Also elected are Remmy Nweke as Publicity Secretary; Azuh Arinze as Financial Secretary, and Mrs Yemisi Izuora, Treasurer.
The rest are Horatius Egua, James Ume, Akeem Oyetunji, Raymond Ukaegbu and Tony Edike, who were elected Zonal Coordinators for the North East, North West, South West, South-South and South East, respectively.
In her acceptance speech, Maureen Chigbo pledged to do her best in uplifting the ideals of GOCOP and credibility of members with the support and cooperation of the group.
All the elected officers emerged unopposed.
The 2021 GOCOP Election Committee was chaired by Yusuf Ozi Usman, publisher of Greenberg Reporters while Afolabi Odeyemi was the Secretary. Other members of the committee include Dr. Monday Ashibogwu, Mr. Wole Tokede and Mr. Kazeem Akintunde.
GOCOP is a registered non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit organisation, comprising owners of Online Publications, who previously worked as professional journalists in major mainstream media organisations.
The newly elected exco will be inaugurated on Thursday, 7 October 2021 the same venue.
