DELTA- Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on political officeholders to serve the people humbly, crediting his emergence in Delta as God’s design.
The governor said this on Sunday at a thanksgiving service in honour of the majority leader of the Delta House of Assembly, Emeka Nwaobi.
The service was held at St Paul’s Catholic Cathedral Church, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North LGA.
He described Nr Nwaobi as a good man and urged him to continue humbly serving God. Mr Oborevwori advised him to use his position to bring the people of Aniocha North together for the good of the local government area and always thank God for the good things done in their lives.
Mr Oborevwori said, “As we were coming here this morning, we passed through the Ogwashi-Uku Stadium, where we came for PDP governorship primaries in 2006. I passed through that as a delegate then, and today, I passed through it as governor of Delta state.
“It is only God that can do a thing like that, and it is good to give thanks to him for whatever happens because if Okowa had become governor in 2007, perhaps I wouldn’t have been governor today.”
Mr Nwaobi thanked God and commended Mr Oborevwori and the party leadership for finding him worthy to serve as the majority leader. He pledged his unalloyed loyalty and commitment to the speaker and members of parliament.
Mr Nwaobi urged his Aniocha North constituents, particularly the Issele-Uku kingdom, to continue supporting the PDP for more dividends of democracy.
The thanksgiving service was attended by Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, ex-Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife Edith, the Delta assembly speaker, Emomotimi Guwor and his wife, Timiebi. Others were the speaker of the Anambra assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, deputy speaker of the Delta assembly, Arthur Akpowowo, his wife, PDP chair in Delta Olorogun Kingsley Esiso and members of parliament.
