African U-17 Championship.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the championship’s 11th edition holds in Niger Republic from Feb. 15 to March 1.
Amuneke however told NAN in Abuja on Friday that the team is not having any friendly match lined up before departing for the championship.
“We do not have any friendly match at hand, but if we are privileged to have one or two before we travel, we will appreciate it.
“This is because the match will still help us test the strength and fitness of our players,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the Golden Eaglets left Abuja for Sokoto on Friday morning in order to fine tune preparations ahead of the championship.
The Eaglets have so far played five friendly matches, winning four and drawing one, since they resumed camping in Abuja in December 2014.
The team is also expected to depart Nigeria for Niger Republic next week.
NAN reports that the Eaglets have been drawn in Group A of the African championship alongside hosts Niger Republic, Guinea and Zambia.
Nigeria and Niger Republic will play the championship’s opening match on Feb. 15 at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché (SGSK).
Nigeria have emerged champions in 2001 and 2007, since the tournament’s inception in 1995.(NAN)
