Gombe -Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State on Wednesday said that the government would sustain its welfare package for health workers for effective service delivery.
Dankwambo announced the measure while declaring open the 2015 annual general meeting of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Gombe.
“In the area of welfare for health workers, the government will sustain residency training allowances for doctors, payment of CONMESS and implementation of relativity on CONMESS.
“We will continue paying allowances to medical and health students undergoing internship and National Youth Service Corps as well as offer employment to enable them to contribute their quota to the development of the state,” he said.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Charles Iliya, urged the members of the association to be dedicated to their duties, adding that the government would continue to give them the required support for optimal performance.
He said that the government would expedite action to complete the College of Nursing, Dukku and Gombe State University Teaching Hospital to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
He further called on the association to encourage youths to pursue medical careers both as a profession for self actualisation and service to humanity.
In his remarks, Dr Danladi Bojude, the Chairman of the state NMA, commended the state government for the implementation of their allowances.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Bojude, however, called for the implementation of skipping of CONMESS from COMMESS 2 as well as teaching allowance for doctors in the state civil service.
The association also inaugurated its newly constructed state secretariat and laid the foundation for the construction of a multi-purpose hall. (NAN)
