Gombe State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Samuel Wabulari, has denied a viral memo suggesting that Fulani-herders had prepared to launch an attack on Billiri Local Government.
The memo as sighted by our correspondent was signed on 17th December 2021 by one Danjuma Mohammed, the Divisional Officer in charge of Yalmatu Deba, who claimed that it was based on an intelligence report.
According to Wabulari, there was never such intelligence, stressing that the corps has appropriate means of quelling such without resorting to causing undue panic.
Represented by Deputy Corps Commandant Ibrahim Meswok, Wabulari said the alleged investigation has not been presented to him formally, so there was no authenticity of the viral memo with the subject ‘Submission on Intelligence Report on the 17th December 2021’.
See memo below:
He noted that as such, the memo should be disregarded and be termed as fake news and not emanating from his men.
Wabulari said, “I have directed that a committee be set up to investigate those that masterminded this act through the picture (camera particulars) that was used to capture the alleged memo. We are working hard to unravel the perpetrators, to know why, how, and when.
“If the so-called memo was genuine, we as the authority will be the first to circulate it and not the other way round. We are virtually not aware of what is happening.”
Also speaking, Command Public Relations Officer, Saad Buhari, urged residents of the state to oblige the corps with relevant information towards arresting the perpetrators.
Buhari said with useful information the NSCDC in the state would arrest all forms of criminality without its eruption.
