GOMBE- President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Dr James Neminebor, on Monday, said Gombe State was one of Nigeria’s best states in prudent resource management.
Neminebor stated this when he led a team of ANAN’s national executives on a visit to Gov. Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe.
He said that Gombe had become an example to other states in the country in view of the pace at which it was being developed.
The ANAN president stated that since he last visited the state in 2018, improvements had been made in terms of infrastructure and other development indices.
“My coming this time, I thought I was in some unique French West African countries until I was told I am in Gombe State,” he said.
According to him, the governor has leveraged his professional experience to address the challenges of the state.
Neminebor said that the state government, under Yahaya’s leadership, had harnessed the human, material and financial resources to develop the state and improve on the wellbeing of the people.
“You have really proved yourself that you are a true accountant and we do appreciate you.
“If I am given a chance to showcase this state, let the whole country come; I think it is a unique thing you have done and the state is one of the best in the country,” he said.
The ANAN president said he and his team were in the state to re-enlighten their members on the ethics and modern development in the accountancy profession.
“We are here to do our mandatory professional practice and this is the third session for the year.
“It’s a three-day event and the opening ceremony is tomorrow (Tuesday),” he said.
Responding, Yahaya welcomed members of the professional body to the state and assured them of a peaceful stay while in the state.
He said that the development witnessed so far in the state was as a result of prudent use of resources and his administration’s desire to meet the yearnings of the people.
“That is what we stand for and I can assure you that when next you come, even if it is in six months time, you will see Gombe better than you find it now.
“You have learnt a lot about what we are doing and what your members are contributing in terms of the management of the little resources that we have.
“Many indices have been put in place and Gombe always comes amongst the first 10 states, in spite of the fact that it earns second to the least on the revenue table.
“Whatever you see here is as a result of the prudence and positive thinking of our team, which have lots of accountants who have been trained by ANAN,” he said.
The governor further stated that his administration had worked hard to ensure development and improvement on the lives of the citizens.
He commended ANAN for its continuous improvement on the lives of financial managers which, he said, the state had benefitted from in term of prudent management of its scarce resources.
While acknowledging ANAN’s contributions to the development of the country, Yahaya, however, urged the members to continuously come up with initiatives that would help improve the country’s economy. (NAN)
