Gombe – In its efforts to equip unemployed youths in the state with relevant skills to make them independent and self reliant, Gombe state government on Monday organised skill acquisition training for 264 women and youths.
The training was organised by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the state government.
Speaking at the commencement of the training in Gombe, the Commissioner of Economic Planning, Alhaji Abdullahi Pantami, reiterated the commitment of the government to partner UNDP to provide women and youths with relevant skills.
Mrs Rabi Daniel, the Commissioner in charge of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, described the training as `timely.’
She urged the participants to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the training to acquire skills that would make them independent and self reliant in the future.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Mr Adamu Kala, urged the participants to reciprocate government gesture by using the opportunity offered by the training to secure their future.
Prof. Iliya Dongs, the lead consultant, said that the training is aimed at empowering the youths in the state to be self reliant.
He said that his company, Dobast Management Consultants Ltd, would train 30 trainers who would coordinate the training of the 264 women and youths.
Dongs said that the participants would be trained on tailoring, fashion design, lumbering, Plaster of Paris (POP) and solar power installation.
He said that at the end of the training, the participants would be presented with starter kits to commence their own business and become employers of labour in the future.
