Lokoja – Pastor John Adeoti, the Resident Pastor of the Overcomer’s Light Chapel International (OLCI), on Friday urged Christians to emulate the virtues and attributes of Jesus Christ.
Adeoti, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency Nigeria (NAN) on the occasion of this year’s “Good Friday” celebration in Lokoja, also called on Christians to sustain exemplary lifestyle of peace and humility as done by Jesus Christ.
“Virtues such as love, peace, humility, giving, kindness, long-suffering, tolerance, patience, forgiveness, truthfulness, sincerity, righteousness and godliness were exhibited by Christ to the point of death.
“We must live a life that is worthy of emulation; a life of integrity that will outlive us and the generations after us,’’ he said.
Adeoti noted that Christ was peaceful, loving and sacrificed his life to redeem mankind from destruction to eternal life. As Christians, we must learn to sacrifice for the good of all.
He said that the only way to reciprocate the love of God toward mankind was to love our neighbours as ourselves and be at peace with everyone.
He also said that Nigerians must be their brother’s keeper by peacefully co-existing with one another, irrespective of individual strengths, weaknesses or differences.
“As Christians, we must live like Christ both in words and in deeds in order to have an ideal and peaceful society free of crimes and atrocities.
“Our lives must reflect that of Christ; we must pray for peace in Nigeria and we must remain peaceful ourselves.
The cleric called on Christians and Muslims to show love to each other for the unity and stability of the nation.
“The unity, stability and peaceful co-existence of this country must be paramount in our hearts, irrespective of our affiliations and differences,” he restated.
The cleric called on Nigerians to be patient with the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and give him their total support.
