Speaking at the inauguration, Ahmed said the committee was part of the state government’s efforts at looking inwards to enhance revenue generation.
“The steep drop in revenue from crude oil sales has hampered government’s capacity to meet obligations to the people, especially infrastructure, potable water, quality education and improved healthcare delivery services among others to the public.
“Our resolve in this regard led to the repositioning, restructuring and transformation of the internal revenue collection structure in line with our self target,” Ahmed said.
The committee, according to Ahmed, would harmonise tax administration in the state.
He said the committee would also deal with revenue matters of common concern to the state and local government authorities and enlighten members of the public on state and local government revenue matters.
Ahmed charged the committee members to work diligently in bringing about the desired change in revenue drive, mobilisation, generation and collection.
Dr Murtala Awodun, the Chairman of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service(KWIRS) and head of the committee, said members would discharge their responsibilities diligently.
Other members of the committee are the chairmen of the 16 local government councils in the state and Alhaji Rasaq Olorunmako of the State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development.
The rest are Dr Saka Olookoba of KWIRS and Mrs Fatimah Folorunsho-Salman who would serve as the secretary of the committee. (NAN)
