LAFIA – Gov. Umaru Al-makura of Nasarawa State on Tuesday pledged to tackle the flood challenges facing the state with a view to avoid environmental disaster.
Al-makura made the pledge when he visited some areas affected by flood recently in Tudun Kauri in Lafia metropolis.
Tudun Kauri is one of the areas in Lafia usually flooded whenever it rains due to poor drainage system.
He explained that his visit was to ascertain the level of devastation as well as fashion out ways to avert future occurrence.
The governor promised to build better drainage channels and intensify efforts on educating the people of the area to avoid dumping of refuse on waterways.
He said the state government would do everything possible to safeguard the environment against any kind of catastrophe and urged the people of the state to imbibe good sanitary habits.
Al-makura said that the state government would intensify efforts to make waterways clean in order to avoid flooding during the rainy season. (NAN)
