Gov Aliyu warns politicians against forcing electorate

MINNA – Gov. Babangida Aliyu of on Saturday in Minna warned Nigerian politicians against forcing the electorate to vote for those who would not benefit them.

Aliyu said the development of the country would be assured when the principles of democracy were allowed to fully take root in the heart of the populace.

“Allow democracy to play its role. Nobody should be forced to vote for any one,’’ he told newsmen, after the PDP picked its candidate for the Niger East senatorial by-election. [eap_ad_1] The governor commended the representatives of the National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting the primary election in a calm atmosphere.

The election, which was conducted Dr Mohammed Shata as the Returning Officer, was attended by 387 delegates.

The delegates were drawn from the nine local areas which make the senatorial zone.

Shata said the two candidates, Dr Shem Zagbayi and Malam Abdullahi Musa, scored 372 and 14 votes respectively.

Commenting on his victory, Zagbayi said he would ensure all the state’ ordinary citizens were given priority in all the actions of the when elected.

He urged the electorate not to relent in its for the PDP and ensure there was a massive turnout for the Aug. 30 by-election.(NAN)
