Gov. Ambode promises to provide enabling environment for corps members

Lagos  –  Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Friday promised to provide an enabling environment for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to optimise their capacity to drive the change agenda.
Ambode made the promise at the opening ceremony of the 2016 NYSC Batch ‘A’ Steam I orientation course at Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
He was represented by Mr Oluseye Olabode, Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties.
The governor said his administration was committed to the provision of employment for youths and revamping of the economy.
“It is heartwarming to note that the NYSC scheme has over the years lived up to its vision, impacting positively on the national development process in the rural areas through community development projects by your predecessors.
“I therefore challenge you all to strive to surpass the worthy achievements of your predecessors in the scheme.
“I commend the NYSC for introducing entrepreneurial training into the orientation course contents and I urge you to take the training and other aspects seriously to adequately equip yourselves for self-employment after service,” he said.
Ambode called for collective vigilance and committed effort to tackle the present security challenge in the country.
He also charged corps members to exhibit the highest degree of loyalty, dedication, discipline and commitment to national ideals.
“Dear compatriots, the present security challenge in our nation can only be dealt with through collective vigilance and committed efforts of all patriotic citizens.
“I, therefore, implore you to listen attentively to the security lectures and tips contained in the pamphlets which have been packaged for you by the NYSC management,” he said.
The state Coordinator, NYSC, Mr Cyril Akhanemhe, said in his opening address that 2,135 corps members, comprising1,023 male and 1,112 female, were registered by 12 midnight of April 28.
In a message sent to the event, President Muhammadu Buhari said the Federal Government was determined to make huge investment in Nigerian youths. (NAN)
