Mubi – Gov. Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa, has expressed his determination to turn Adamawa State University, Mubi, to world class institution through adequate funding.
He made the pledge on Friday in Mubi at the 14th matriculation of the university.
The governor was represented at the occasion by Alhaji Abdurahaman Isa, member, Adamawa State House of Assembly representing Mubi South constituency.
He said that his declaration of state of emergency on education was not made for political reason, adding that it was aimed at improving the standard of education in the state.
He said that his administration would pay attention to the university for the development of future leaders.
“The state of emergency in education is not for fanfare; it is because we are serious and committed to developing the state.
“I want to assure you that we are serious; within a short time you will see positive changes in the sector,’ Bindow promised.
He urged all sections of the institution to work in harmony with the management, adding that effective leadership was crucial for the development of the institution.
Bindow called on the legislature to cooperate with the executive by enacting legislation to rescue education from collapse.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Dr Moses Zaruwa, urged the government to intervene in critical areas that needed attention in the university.
He commended the government for ending the protracted crises that engulfed the university in the past.
He urged the matriculating students to be academic whistle blowers by reporting exploitation, extortion and any form of harassment to the management.
Zaruwa noted with delight that stability of the institution had resulted in the matriculation of 4,600 students for the 2016/2017 academic session.
“It is an improvement in our student’s enrolment as we matriculated 3,000 students for the 2015/2016 academic session, he said.
He assured the students that his administration would improve infrastructure in the institution to enhance teaching and learning.
The VC appealed to the government to improve funding for the university to enable it produce quality products that would stand the test of time.
