Jos- Gov Jonah Jang of Plateau has won the People Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial ticket to contest for Plateau North seat at the National Assembly.
Jang polled 273 votes to defeat Mr Ibrahim Kasai, who scored 18 at the party’s primaries held in Jos on Sunday.
Mr Ibrahim Bamali, Chairman, PDP Electoral Panel for House of Representatives and Senate Primaries, described the process as transparent.
Bamali thanked the delegate and Plateau PDP members for the peaceful conduct of the election in the zone.
Jang also thanked the almighty God for what He had done in the state and for the peaceful primaries in particular.
He congratulated all PDP members in the state for conducting themselves in a very responsible manner, adding that it was a sign that there was internal democracy.
“We are one family under the umbrella; the winners should congratulate the losers and the losers should congratulate the winners,’’ he said.
The governor said that he would not take the victory for granted and would take campaign for the general elections very seriously.
He said that the party would set up a strong campaign team after the presidential primaries to ensure the PDP in the state surpassed its previous achievements in terms of elections.
“By the grace of God, we are not taking anything for granted and we are going to work very hard so that PDP will perform better than it did in 2011,’’ he said. (NAN)
