Katsina – Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has allocated 140 hectres of land for the establishment of textile and garments industry in Funtua Local Government Area of the state.
The Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, disclosed this when he received the Minister of Trade and Investment, Hajiya Maryam Katagum in Katsina on Friday.
Yakubu stated that the choice of Funtua for the project is suitable in view of mass production of cotton by farmers in the area.
He explained that that the there is also a trunk A road from that place which linked many parts of the country.
“As I earlier stated, apart from the raw material and access road, there are basic infrastructures like electricity, water, security in the area,” the deputy said.
The minister had earlier said that the Funtua textile industry is one the six projects approved by the Federal Government under National Economic Zones for manufacturing goods for exportation.
Katagum explained that they were in Katsina on advocacy visit to access and do feasibility in the site donated by the state government for the project.
She announced that they will start work as a pilot project in three places; namely Funtua in Katsina State, Lekki in Lagos State and Enyimba in Abia State.
The minister said that the projects would bring a lot of economic opportunities to the people of the affected areas and the country at large. (NAN)
